Presurgical Evaluations Assess Texas providers participate in a program designed to provide morbidly obese patients with continuous, comprehensive and preventative psychological health care services that incorporate psychological findings into a multidisciplinary health care treatment model. Psychologists at Assess Texas collaborate with a multidisciplinary team from the primary care provider’s office which includes medical internists, surgeons, nurses, nurse clinical practitioners, nursing assistants, dietitians, and administrative staff to develop comprehensive treatment plans for pre-surgical and post-surgical intervention. The psychology staff members at Assess Texas are important consultants to this interdisciplinary team and play an integral role in formulating and articulating a biopsychosocial model of health care delivery for this primary care program. Such a model posits that, in addition to biological variables, psychological and social variables must also be considered in evaluating and treating medical difficulties. Psychology’s role in Bariatric Medicine is an evolving one, and interns are invited to help us delineate the path of this evolution.
